The Final Content of Your Digital Photographs

The Final Content of Your Digital Photographs

The basics of camera resolution are easier to understand when you know how the different items create the bigger picture. There are some basic misconceptions that need to be cleared up:

* Image quality cannot be determined by the number of pixels on a sensor, they only indicate the resolution.

* Both pixel density and pixel size affect the quality of the image.

* When purchasing a camera, effective pixels (the number of pixels actually being used) should be how you determine the pixel count. It doesn't matter how many pixels are on the sensor.

* Camera resolution and printed resolution are related to each other, but are not the same. There are many factors to consider when determining quality.

* Choosing in-camera processing will have a lot to do with the image quality, and it can compromise your work even further.

The ultimate enjoyment, regardless of pixels, resolution, and quality, is the content of the photo; you should always enjoy your photographic experiences.  Don't get so caught up in the technology of your digital camera that you stop enjoying the final product. It doesn't matter how high quality the image is -- if the content is poor, it won't be a good photo.

Do not get to the point that you can't take a photograph without all of the latest equipment on hand. While the camera and the equipment have a lot to do with the quality of the image, the final tool necessary is a photographer who has a good eye for the subject and knows how to capture what he is looking at.

In the end, the only thing to consider is this: Think about what you are photographing; if the camera is in order, everything else will fall into place. Don't concentrate so much on the camera and equipment that you stop concentrating on the subject of your work. Your photographs will be all the better for it.
